Due to the sensitive nature of some of the College's biological and historical collections, strict photographic and usage requirements apply. Generally, photography in the Mütter Museum is prohibited. Exemptions may be requested. Photography of materials in the Historical Medical Library is allowed under certain conditions.
All proposals to conduct photography shall sufficiently identify the objects to be photographed, under what circumstances, by whom, and shall adequately describe the anticipated use for the images.
The College reviews requests on a case-by-case basis and grants approval based on the nature of the request, whether the image use is consistent with the mission of the College, and the experience and credentials of the requester.
If approved, the College will negotiate when and under what circumstances the photography will take place. Fees will apply for staff time. Except for scholars who take low-resolution images of library materials in the reading room of the Historical Medical Library, photographers must be accompanied by a museum staff member. No entry to storage facilities or special collections will be granted unless previously authorized.
On the day of scheduled visit, photographers must have the "Permission to Photograph" badge visible at all times (obtained at the entrance desk). Museum staff may escort photographers.
